Coversmith came to life in 2006 as an idea among friends who enjoyed playing music together. It was initially just an outlet to play some of their favorite cover songs, but they eventually decided it would be even more fun to play for a crowd. And they were right.
The original lineup came together in late 2009 and built up a huge repertory of rock songs spanning five decades — from the 60s all the way to the 2000s. Over the next several years, Coversmith gained notoriety playing Lawrence-area venues, as well as private parties, weddings, and large outdoor events. In the summer of 2014, the band went through a line-up change, with four original members continuing on. They added a new member and even more songs to their set list.
Coversmith has played shows for The University of Kansas Alumni and Athletic Associations, Lawrence Habitat for Humanity, and the City of Salina, KS. The band has also played venues such as the Jazzhaus, the Bottleneck, and the Granada Theater in Lawrence, KS; Tom Fooleries in Kansas City, MO; and the Brick Yard 20 Ale House in Emporia, KS.
